Tbilisi Airport Terminal Layout: How the Airport Is Organized

Tbilisi Airport is easy to navigate once you know the basic flow: departures move through check-in, security and passport control to the gates, while arrivals move from passport control to baggage reclaim and the public Arrival Hall.

Tbilisi International Airport has separate Departure and Arrival terminal areas within the same airport complex.

For departing passengers, the basic layout is:

Departure Terminal → Security → Passport Control → Gates

For arriving passengers:

Aircraft → Passport Control → Baggage Reclaim → Arrival Hall → Public Area

The passenger complex also uses several levels, including the First Floor, Mezzanine and Second Floor.

How Tbilisi Airport Is Organized

The simplest way to picture Tbilisi Airport is as two separate passenger flows.

Departing passengers start in the public Departure Terminal and move inward through security and passport control before reaching the gate area.

Arriving passengers move in the opposite direction: from the aircraft through passport control and baggage reclaim before entering the public Arrival Hall.

Official airport maps identify three passenger levels:

  • First Floor
  • Mezzanine
  • Second Floor

The Arrival and Departure terminals are part of the same airport complex. However, the available official information does not clearly show the exact public pedestrian route between the two buildings, so it is better not to assume a specific indoor connection.

Departure Terminal: Where You Start

The departure journey begins in the Departure Hall.

This is the public part of the terminal, with the check-in area, information desk and flight-information screens.

From here, the next major boundary is security:

Entrance → Departure Hall → Check-in Area → Security

After security, international passengers continue to passport control and then into the gate area. For the full step-by-step departure process, see Tbilisi Airport Departure.

Security and Passport Control

Security and passport control separate the public part of Departures from the controlled gate area.

The sequence is:

Public Departure Hall → Security → Passport Control → Gate Area

Passport Control is shown on the airport’s official Mezzanine Floor plan.

Gate 101 is immediately beyond the security and passport-control area, which makes it a useful orientation point: once these formalities are complete, you are already entering the gate section of the terminal.

The same mezzanine plan also shows gates 101, 102 and 103.

Gate Area

Tbilisi Airport uses more than one gate-number series.

Current airport information confirms active use of at least:

  • Gate 101
  • Gate 102
  • Gate 201
  • Gate 203

The official mezzanine plan also shows gates 101–103.

So passengers should not expect every gate to sit in one single row or on one single level.

Boarding arrangements can also differ. Some aircraft use an airbridge, while others may be boarded from a remote apron position.

There is not enough official evidence to publish a complete gate directory or to state that every 200-series gate is on the Second Floor.

Floors and Levels

First Floor

The First Floor contains many of the airport’s public-facing passenger functions.

Official mapping shows:

  • check-in;
  • arrivals-side facilities;
  • information;
  • entrances and exits;
  • lifts;
  • escalators.

For most passengers, this is the main level where they first interact with the terminal.

Mezzanine

The Mezzanine is an important part of the international departure flow.

The official plan shows:

  • Passport Control;
  • Gates 101–103;
  • Transit Desk;
  • lifts;
  • escalators.

In practical terms, this is one of the key transition levels between departure formalities and the gate area.

Second Floor

Tbilisi Airport also has an official Second Floor map.

Current flight information confirms active use of 200-series gates such as 201 and 203.

What is not sufficiently documented is the complete relationship between every 200-series gate and the Second Floor. It should therefore not be presented as a fixed gate-to-floor rule.

Arrivals: Where You Come Out

The arrivals side follows a clear sequence:

Aircraft → Passport Control → Baggage Reclaim → Customs / Exit from Controlled Area → Arrival Hall

Baggage reclaim comes after passport control.

The Arrival Terminal has four baggage carousels, with Lost & Found beside the baggage area.

After baggage reclaim and the final controlled section, passengers enter the Arrival Hall, which is the public side of the terminal.

Two useful landmarks here are:

  • the meeting point;
  • the information desk.

Airport signage directs arriving passengers toward these public-area points. For a detailed arrival walkthrough, see Tbilisi Airport Arrivals.

Optional Private Transfer

Want the pickup arranged before you leave the terminal?

If you prefer to walk out of Arrivals with the next step already organized, a pre-booked private transfer can be useful when you have children, several bags or simply want a direct ride into Tbilisi.

Lifts, Escalators and Accessibility

Lifts and escalators are marked on the airport’s official level plans.

The airport also confirms barrier-free access for passengers with reduced mobility.

Special assistance can begin near the entrance to the Departure Terminal, and passengers using their own wheelchair or mobility aid may continue with it as far as the departure gate.

Where direct boarding through an airbridge is not possible, an Ambulift can be used to assist passengers between the terminal and the aircraft.

The airport does not publish a detailed enough accessible-route map to give reliable instructions such as which exact lift to take for a particular gate.

How to Find Your Way

The most useful navigation points are straightforward.

Information desks are located in the central areas of both the Departure and Arrival terminals.

In Departures, flight-information screens help passengers find the correct check-in area and follow flight information.

In Arrivals, signage directs passengers toward the meeting point and information desk after they leave the controlled part of the terminal.

The airport also publishes separate maps for:

  • First Floor;
  • Mezzanine Floor;
  • Second Floor.

For orientation, these maps are more useful than trying to memorize individual facilities before arriving.

What Is Not Precisely Mapped

A few details should not be stated more precisely than the available evidence allows.

The airport does not provide a fully verified current map showing every gate and its exact floor.

The exact public pedestrian route between the Arrival and Departure terminal buildings is also not clearly documented in the available official material.

There are no reliable official walking-time figures between the main terminal zones and individual gates.

So estimates such as “five minutes to the gate” or “ten minutes between terminals” should not be treated as established facts.

Bottom Line

Tbilisi Airport is easiest to understand as two separate passenger flows within the same airport complex.

Departures move from the public Departure Hall through security and passport control into the gate area.

Arrivals move from passport control through baggage reclaim and then into the public Arrival Hall.

The First Floor contains many of the public-facing functions, while the Mezzanine is an important part of the international departure flow and includes Passport Control and gates 101–103.

The full gate-to-floor layout is not documented clearly enough to justify more detailed claims.

FAQ

Is Tbilisi Airport one terminal or two?

The airport uses separate Departure and Arrival terminal components within the same airport complex.

Where is Departures?

Departing passengers begin in the public Departure Hall, where the check-in area and information desk are located. From there, the route continues toward security.

Where is Arrivals?

Arriving passengers move from passport control to baggage reclaim and then into the public Arrival Hall.

What comes after security?

For international departures, passengers continue from security to passport control and then into the controlled gate area.

Where is passport control?

Passport Control is shown on the official Mezzanine Floor plan.

Are gates on different levels?

The airport uses several passenger levels and more than one gate-number series. Gates 101–103 are shown on the Mezzanine plan, while gates 201 and 203 are also actively used.

A complete official gate-to-floor map is not available.

Is Tbilisi Airport accessible?

Yes. The airport confirms barrier-free access, lifts, escalators, mobility assistance and Ambulift service where required.

How long does it take to walk to the gate?

The airport does not publish sufficiently reliable walking times or distances for individual gates, so a fixed number of minutes should not be assumed.
