Tbilisi Airport to City: Bus, Bolt, Taxi or Private Transfer?

Compare bus 337, Bolt, the official airport taxi and private transfers from Tbilisi Airport to the city by price, timing, luggage and group size.

There is no single “best” way to get from Tbilisi Airport into the city.

The cheapest option costs just 1 GEL. A Bolt is usually the practical middle ground. The official airport taxi costs more but is available immediately without an app. A pre-booked transfer costs the most, but it removes most of the arrival-day uncertainty.

The right choice depends less on the headline fare than on when you land, how much luggage you have, how many people are travelling, and whether your hotel sits near the bus route.

The 1 GEL bus is genuinely cheap

Tbilisi Airport’s official transport page lists municipal bus 337 between the airport and central Tbilisi. The fare is 1 GEL, with payment by MetroMoney or supported bank card.

The airport stop is directly in front of Arrivals. The published timetable runs from 06:59 to 22:59, and the route passes central areas including Freedom Square and Rustaveli before continuing toward Station Square.

For one person arriving during the day with a cabin bag, it is hard to beat on price.

The trade-off is geometry. If your hotel is not close to the route, the “1 GEL trip” can become a bus ride plus a walk, metro connection or second ride. With large suitcases, children or several travellers, the saving may matter less than the extra handling.

Bolt is the practical middle ground

Bolt officially supports pickups at Tbilisi Airport. The app shows the current airport pickup point, estimated wait and price before you request the car.

In current checks, ordinary rides to central Tbilisi were roughly 19–25 GEL per car, although Bolt pricing is dynamic and can move with traffic and demand.

For a couple, a 20 GEL ride is about 10 GEL each. For four people, it is about 5 GEL each before any larger-vehicle upgrade.

That is why Bolt often becomes much more attractive once two or more people are sharing the ride.

The main friction is simple: you need the app and working data, and the exact pickup point and waiting time can change.

When the official airport taxi still makes sense

Tbilisi Airport lists its official taxi service directly outside the Arrivals Hall.

It runs 24 hours. The published fixed fare is 40 GEL to the city centre and 50 GEL to suburban areas, with a typical centre journey of around 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.

That is usually more than the Bolt prices seen in current checks, but it buys immediacy: no app setup, no hunting for the ride-hailing pickup point and no waiting for a driver to accept the trip.

For a tired traveller landing with no mobile data, that difference can be worth more than the fare gap.

When a private transfer is worth paying for

A pre-booked transfer makes the most sense when uncertainty is the problem you are trying to remove.

The current Viator private arrival transfer we checked is listed from about US$27, with meet-and-greet in Arrivals, luggage help, hotel drop-off, 24-hour availability and capacity for up to seven passengers. The live price can change, so check the booking page for your date and party size.

For a solo traveller, that is clearly a premium over bus, Bolt or the official taxi. For three or four people, the per-person gap becomes much smaller.

It is most useful for very late or early flights, families, several suitcases, or anyone who would rather see a driver waiting with their name than make another transport decision after landing.

What changes with one, two or four travellers?

Solo: bus wins by a huge margin on price. Bolt is the usual step up for door-to-door convenience. Taxi and transfer are mostly paying for lower friction.

Couple: the bus still costs only 2 GEL total, but a Bolt fare is split between two people. The convenience gap narrows quickly.

Four travellers: bus costs 4 GEL total, but handling four people and luggage matters. A standard Bolt, if it fits everyone and the bags, can become very inexpensive per person. If you need a larger category, compare the live app price with a pre-booked transfer.

Does arrival time change the answer?

Yes.

During the published bus hours, all four options are available and the choice is mostly about cost versus convenience.

After the last bus, the decision narrows to Bolt, the 24-hour official taxi or a pre-booked transfer. That is where luggage, working mobile data and how much uncertainty you want after landing matter more than the difference of a few GEL.

Bottom line

Take bus 337 if you land during operating hours, travel light and your destination is close to the route.

Use Bolt when you want door-to-door transport without paying much more once the fare is shared between two or more people.

Use the official airport taxi when immediate pickup matters more than saving the fare difference or you do not want to rely on an app.

Pre-book a transfer when certainty, luggage handling, a late or early arrival, children or a larger group matter more than getting the lowest price.

The cheapest option is obvious. The useful choice depends on how much friction you want between the arrivals hall and your hotel.
