Tbilisi Airport Arrivals: What to Do After You Land

A practical step-by-step guide to arriving at Tbilisi Airport: passport control, baggage claim, Lost Luggage, Wi-Fi and the next move into the city.

Landing at Tbilisi International Airport is fairly simple. For most international arrivals, the sequence is passport control → baggage claim → customs → arrivals hall.

The useful question is not how the whole airport works. It is what you should deal with before you leave the terminal, and what can wait until you reach Tbilisi.

Just landed? Do these things first

  1. Follow the signs to passport control.
  2. Check the screens for your baggage carousel.
  3. Collect your luggage.
  4. If a bag is missing or damaged, report it before leaving baggage claim.
  5. Pass through customs as required.
  6. Use the free airport Wi-Fi if you need internet.
  7. Choose your transport and head into Tbilisi.

Passport control comes first

International passengers pass through passport control before reaching baggage reclaim. Keep your passport and any entry documents relevant to your nationality easy to reach rather than buried in your hand luggage.

Entry rules depend on citizenship and individual circumstances, so check current Georgian requirements before travelling instead of relying on an old travel article.

Find your baggage carousel

After passport control, follow the signs to baggage reclaim. Tbilisi Airport currently has four baggage carousels in the arrivals area. Screens show which belt is assigned to your flight, and baggage trolleys are free.

You do not need to guess where to wait: check your flight number on the display when you enter the reclaim area.

If your bag is missing or damaged, deal with it here

This is the one arrival problem you should not postpone until you reach your hotel.

The airport’s Lost Luggage office is next to the baggage carousels and handles delayed, lost and damaged luggage. If your checked bag does not arrive, or arrives damaged, report the problem while you are still in the baggage area and keep the reference or paperwork you receive.

Check the airport’s current Lost Luggage information before relying on saved contact details.

Customs does not need to become a research project

After collecting your bags, follow the signs through customs. Most ordinary visitors do not need a long customs explanation here.

If you are carrying cash, goods or other items that may need to be declared, check the current rules with the Georgian Revenue Service. Special cases are better handled by the official rules than by a general airport guide.

What should you actually do in the arrivals hall?

Once you leave the controlled arrivals area, you will find services including currency exchange, tourist information, cafés, shops, car-rental desks, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour medical point.

You do not need to use all of them. After a long flight, solve only the things stopping you from continuing your journey.

If you need… Practical move
Internet Use the free airport Wi-Fi first.
Help Use the airport information desk.
Cash Get only what you actually need immediately.
Food or coffee There are options in the terminal; stop only if you need them.
A rental car Car-rental desks are available in Arrivals.
Transport Choose your route into Tbilisi and leave the airport.

You can get online before buying a SIM

Tbilisi Airport provides free Wi-Fi in public areas of the Arrivals and Departures terminals, and the airport says registration is not required. The listed networks are Tbilisi Loves You and Airport Free Wi-Fi.

That is enough to message your accommodation, check an address or arrange transport. You do not need to make buying a Georgian SIM your first decision unless you specifically want one immediately.

Leaving the airport: keep the decision separate

Once you have your luggage and a working connection, the remaining job is getting into the city. Your main choices are the municipal bus, Bolt, the official airport taxi or a pre-booked transfer.

Bus 337 stops in front of the Arrivals Hall. The airport currently lists a 1 GEL fare for 90 minutes of travel and a published timetable of 06:59–22:59. That makes it extremely cheap, but it is not the right option for every arrival.

We compare price, luggage, group size and convenience separately in Tbilisi Airport to City: Bus, Bolt, Taxi or Private Transfer?. There is no reason to repeat that full comparison here.

Optional Private Transfer

Want the pickup arranged before you land?

A pre-booked private transfer can make sense if you are arriving with children, several bags, a larger group, or simply do not want to make another transport decision after the flight.

Arriving late at night?

The airport does not suddenly become difficult at night, but the transport calculation changes. The airport’s current timetable for bus 337 ends at 22:59, so a late landing can remove the cheapest option before you clear passport control and baggage claim.

If your flight arrives late or is delayed, see Arriving at Tbilisi Airport Late at Night: What Actually Changes After the Last Bus? for the night-specific decision between Bolt, the official taxi and a pre-booked transfer.

Five things worth remembering

Check the screen for your baggage belt. The assigned carousel is displayed for your flight.

Do not walk away from an unresolved baggage problem. Report missing or damaged luggage while you are still in the reclaim area.

You already have free internet. Use the airport Wi-Fi before deciding whether you need a SIM immediately.

You do not need to solve your whole Georgia trip in Arrivals. Deal with the next hour, not the next week.

If you land late, check the transport plan. Bus 337 does not run around the clock according to the airport’s current timetable.

Bottom line

Tbilisi Airport is a straightforward place to arrive if you keep the process simple: passport control → baggage → customs → internet → transport.

Handle any baggage problem before leaving the reclaim area. Get online if you need to. Then choose your way into Tbilisi and go.

SIM cards, detailed transport comparisons, airport food, currency exchange and onward travel can wait until they become an actual decision.
